The early 1990s saw the beginnings of recreational CCR diving as we know it.  The early pioneers of this sport became equipment manufacturers many times not because they wanted to get into manufacturing and distribution, but because there just wasn’t readily available mass manufactured equipment to be had.  We’ve come a long way from homemade O2 cells on kitchen tables, CCRs that had a work of breathing similar to sucking through a soda straw and electronic controllers that worked only on odd days of the week!

Join this panel of leading CCR designers and manufacturers as they discuss the last 20 years of CCR design and look forward to the next 20 years of innovation.  Kevin Juergensen (Juergensen Marine), Leon Scamahorn (Inner Space Systems), Bruce Partridge (Shearwater Research), Paul Raymaekers (rEvo), and Martin Parker (Ambient Pressure), led by moderator Randy Thornton (CCRExplorers & Dive Addicts), will discuss improvements in rebreather functional safety.

With innovations like HUDs, alarms, CO2 sensors, temp sticks, innovative scrubber designs, O2 sensors, BOVs, deco algorithms etc. etc., these guys literally wrote the book when it comes to designing and manufacturing some of the most successful rebreathers on the planet, always with an eye to increasing diver safety and rebreather functionality.

When you get this many experienced CCR designers together, you’re bound to hear a few war stories as well as get some insight into what the future holds for CCR design.
