The underwater caves of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula are flooded time capsules filled will geological and archaeological marvels that take us back tens of thousands of years. For over 2 years SJ Alice Bennett has been striving towards capturing a different angle of these cave systems. With her background in event & documentary photography, she aims not only to capture the otherworldly beauty, but also the emotions felt when swimming though these breathtaking environments.
Often shooting in caves she has never been in before and with divers who have never modelled, SJ typically does not stage her shots. Instead, she documents the dive “on the fly” in real-time as it is executed. She is looking forward to sharing her perspective on cave photography and her techniques used to direct lighting assistances and models, how to anticipate divers movements, and show the cave as the divers see, feel, and experience it.
