For the last 20 years, The Bahamas Caves Research Foundation has been working with Bahamian governmental agencies and NGOs in bringing to light the amazing underwater/underground world that few in the Bahamas have ever seen.
Brian Kakuk, Director of the Bahamas Caves Research Foundation (BCRF) , will present exploration, research and conservation efforts which have been documented and funded by the Antiquities Monuments and Museums Corporation/National Museum of the Bahamas, the National Geographic Society and Nova. This presentation is a one hour PowerPoint presentation showing crystal filled passage, massive underground rooms and newly discovered fossils that have changed much of what we know about pre-Columbian history of the Bahamas.
The BCRF has taken years of research from multi-disciplinary expeditions, and used this information in a proposal to protect an astounding series of blue holes located on Abaco Island. These blue holes are considered to be the most highly decorated underwater caves in the world as well as some of the most scientifically important sites in our island nation. The presentation will also cover the current status of this proposal and its future use as a national model for blue holes conservation in the Bahamas.
