Rick Stanton, a renowned British Cave Explorer, will be discussing the World's longest multiple sump cave diving peneration. In 2009 Jason Mallinson invited Rick and others to form a team and join him in exploring the Spanish Pozo Azul cave system. During this first joint venture, the team managed to further explore, then pass the second sump after a distance of approximately 16,929 feet (5,160 metres), often with depths up to 230 feet (70 metres).
This is the longest cave dive through to an airspace. Beyond lay a third sump and Rick and his team have returned most years since, to continue pushing the cave. Each time the cave system has 'gone big time' as they explored further. This included camping underground for two nights in a short section of dry passage between sumps. In order to achieve their goal, the team used massive ride on scooters modified with Lithium battery packs and side mount modular rebreather systems, and these greatly assisted with the dive logistics.
To date the series of explorations has now taken the team beyond the fourth sump with a total of over 30,466feet (9286 metres) of diving from the single cave entrance; exploration continues.....
