The Mediterranean Sea is well-known for its beautiful dive sites in many different countries. Gabriele Paparo is an Italian “full time” diver, being a technical diving instructor as a hobby and a Navy diver as a profession. He is now living and working in Sardinia, a beautiful island in the center of the Mediterranean Sea, where scuba diving possibilities are at their best. He has been traveling all around Italy for 20 years now, diving the most beautiful sites in the country, both for pleasure and/or work or military exercises. Sardinia (and all of Italy) was an important theater during both World Wars, and its waters now conserve many wrecks of ships, submarines, and airplanes at any depth. Italy was also crowded with ancient ships from the Roman Empire; many of them are now lying on the bottom of the sea with their cargo. Mother Nature has also been very good with this area of the Mediterranean Sea, and both marine reefs and ocean caves are abundant and beautiful, not to mention the springs and their underwater caves: in Sardinia is located one of the biggest cave systems in Europe, a spectacular formation of tunnels that begins from the salt water of the Mediterranean Sea (accessible only by boat) and enters into the fresh water of the spring, with many tunnels still to be explored. Gabriele, with his presentation, will introduce to us some of these spectacular technical dive sites located in his country, with some photos from the most beautiful deep wrecks and caves he has visited with his rebreather (or “double rebreather”) since 2001, when he started diving SCR and CCR also for his personal dives. Will you change your mind about your next diving location!?
