About Maria Fotiadi
My name is Fotiadi Maria. I was born in Greece at 12 January 1990. I studied Archaeology and History at the University of Ioannina, Greece. After I obtained my two Bachelor Degrees, I moved to UK to complete a MA of Arts in 2012-2013 at the University of Birmingham. When I moved back to Greece, I began my professional carrier as a field Archaeologist. I completed several other specialties in the meantime, such as conservator of antiquities and I obtained another MA by Research at the University of Birmingham. I moved to a few Greek cities, before I start a 4 years contract as a field archaeologist in Athens since 2015. This allowed me to complete the first dive courses and discover the beauty of the underwater world. In Athens I also followed Speleology courses. Since 2017, I was an active member of the Hellenic Speleological Society team and visited several caves and of course the famous mines of Laurion region. This allowed me to participate at two dry cave exploration projects in Crete (Sternes Cave Expedition) and Euboea (Manikia Cave Expedition) during 2019. The need to go deeper and work as a professional marine archaeologist into more advanced projects, made me take the steps of technical diving (Padi Deep Diver Specialty and then IANTD Advanced Nitrox) and obtain currently a contract with the Ephorate of Underwater Antiquities.
